Fundamentals of Creative Writing

Maybe you’re curious about creative writing and would like to try it; maybe it’s been years since you tried putting pen to paper; maybe you’re not sure you have any stories to tell. If that’s the case, RVCC’s new one-hour class, Fundamentals of Creative Writing, might be a good place to start. Meeting weekly for one hour, this class will take you through a series of writing exercises that will help you move with confidence from that scary blank page to a finished short story. (You get to decide whether the story is memoir or fiction.)

Dates: Thursdays from 7-8PM starting February 27 and ending April 30, 2020 (10 classes)

Cost: $75/person

Both courses will be instructed by Lesley Peterson.

Winnipeger and Riverview resident Lesley Peterson has published poetry and short fiction; she developed creative writing courses at Sisler High School and for the Manitoba Institute of Gifted Students; she mentored adult students as a professor of English (at the University of North Alabama); she co-founded the chapbook publishing company dog ear press (active in the ‘90s). Today as a freelance editor she works with clients to help them turn their drafts and ideas into publishable manuscripts.

Here’s to all the poets and the writers! And here’s to the coaches and instructors (that would be you Lesley) who create the spaces for our voices to be heard! Thank you for bringing such a joyful attitude to your work with our group.” – Donna Marion (participant in the spring 2019 creative writing class for mature adults at RVCC)
