Spotting and Avoiding Phone Scams

Join us for the first session in Riverview Community Centre’s new Lunch & Learn series—short, informative presentations designed to keep you connected, informed, and confident.

This 30-minute session focuses on common phone scams, including “grandparent” and emergency scams that often target older adults. You’ll learn how these scams work, what warning signs to watch for, and what to do if you receive a suspicious call.

The presentation is based on the Just Hang Up! campaign and will also touch briefly on other types of scams. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

What to expect:

  • A clear, practical overview of common phone scams
  • Tips for protecting yourself and your loved ones
  • Time for Q&A in a relaxed, supportive setting
  • A free catered lunch

Whether you’re looking to stay informed yourself or help protect someone you care about, this session offers simple, useful takeaways you can put into practice right away.
