Engineering 101
Over 5 weeks, students will explore 5 different disciplines of engineering through hands-on building projects. Fun for new and returning students alike, each session ends with a take-home item built in class under instructor guidance, with opportunity to modify designs for students looking for an extra challenge! This 60-minute class allows plenty of time to explore the science behind the projects. Parents are welcome to stay for the class, or to drop students off and pick up at the end of class time.
Session 1: Thursday October 2-30 | $90
4:45-5:45pm Riverview Community Centre (90 Ashland Avenue)
October 2 – Dino Digger: learn about levers as you craft a grabber tool that looks like a toothy dinosaur!
October 9 – Magic Static: harness the power of static electricity to create and decorate your own magic wand!
October 16 – Chromatography Flower: use chemical engineering to make beautiful craft flowers with surprising colours!
October 23 – Magnet Skating: create your own landscape in a box and design a character that can move through it using magnets!
October 30 – Light Up Monster: design your own toy monster with light up eyes, just in time for Halloween. Costumes encouraged, and treat bags included at the end of class!
Session 2: Thursday November 13-December 11 | $90

November 13 – Whirling Wonders: make a helicopter take flight!
November 20 – Ball Run: chart your own course in this new take on a classic marble run toy!
November 27 – Glow in the Dark Dough: mix up a batch of glowing, formable goo!
December 4 – Treasure Hunt: discover buoyancy and pressure as you build a Cartesian Diver Toy!
December 11 – Light Up Greeting: decorate a holiday card with a light up feature, or design your own! Multiple winter holiday templates available. Holiday treat bags included at the end of class!
You can sign up for one or both sessions: $90 for one 5-week session or $150 for both sessions together (10 weeks total).
