About the Riverview Jackrabbits Program
The Riverview Jackrabbits program is affiliated with the Cross Country Ski Association of Manitoba and Nordiq Canada.
The Riverview Jackrabbits program has been promoting family cross-country skiing in our neighbourhood for over 15 years. The Riverview Jackrabbits program offers a Bunny Rabbits program for children ages 4-5 and the Jackrabbits program for children ages 6 to 10. Group sizes are dependent on the number of coaches supporting the program.
The ski sessions are held in the field behind the Riverview Community Centre and the trials found along Churchill Parkway. We may occasionally ski in other locations. Sessions consist of a mix of skill based drills, games & skiing. We typically wrap up every session with hot chocolate back at the community centre. Sessions are held at 1:30pm on Sundays, and run between 60 and 90 minutes.
Parents are encouraged to ski with their children and take part in the Jackrabbits sessions (parents are required to at least be available during the sessions if their child needs assistance). Your participation will help make skiing a positive shared experience.
Want to lend a hand? The Jackrabbits skiing program relies on volunteers to assist with: rental gear preparation and distribution, post-session hot chocolate making, trail grooming (training provided), and coaching. Volunteers are an invaluable part of the success this program has experienced over the last decade. Please consider helping in any way you can, but we are especially looking for coaches to help during the season. We can help with required training to be a coach.
Program Costs
The cost of the program is $85.00 for one child. Membership in the Cross Country Ski Association of Manitoba (CCSAM) must also be purchased ($18 – individual or $32.00 – family). CCSAM membership provides insurance and supports the purchase of club equipment and supplies, training costs, and trail grooming expenses.
Equipment Rentals
Parents are responsible for finding equipment for their children. However, a limited amount of equipment is available for rent from the Riverview Community Centre. Rental fees are $80 for each set of equipment (boots, poles and skis).
